Mr. Lindsey's Junior High Stem classes have been working on a number of challenging, real world problems and gaining a variety of experiences across STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) disciplines. Pictured on the right is a pair of 7th grade students testing out air skimmers. The objective was to use design thinking to create an air skimmer that would fly the furthest. This one launched 667 1/4 inches! Pictured to the left is a student working on a Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Design and Modeling unit in which middle school students begin by learn about Cerebral Palsy (CP), the engineering design process, 3D modeling, and prototyping, ultimately applying their learning to create a therapeutic toy for a child with CP. We are excited to have Junior High Stem and Mr. Lindsey at Northwestern Local Schools! Students seem to be enjoying all of the different challenges this elective has to offer.

A partnership with the Springfield-Clark CTC has allowed teachers to select career readiness kits to use with their students. Pictured is Mrs. Woolfork's 6th grade class trying out their culinary skills. In this kit, students received all of the necessary ingredients to measure, mix and create their very own personalized slime recipe. These kits are provided at no cost to the district to increase career awareness while allowing students to explore what might interest them most after graduation. Some of the other kits that teachers have requested include engineering, education, welding, construction, criminal justice, dentistry and cosmetology. We appreciate our continued partnership with the CTC to help make our students college and career ready!

If you pick your student(s) up from school daily or are planning to do so this afternoon, please know that the elementary will be busier than normal with foot and car traffic from our 5th and 6th-grade choir and band concert. If you normally arrive early, I recommend that you arrive later than normal but by 3:30 p.m. A large part of our student population will be signed out by their parents after the performances. This will assist in reducing the amount of cars in the pickup line which will result in getting your child (ren) out more quickly than normal. I want to thank each of you in advance for your patience and understanding during today’s afternoon pickup. GO WARRIORS!!!!

Northwestern Local is proud to partner with many local aerospace industry partners for our students to get first hand exposure to a variety of careers connected to the aviation industry. Thank you to Joby, Beta, Lone Mountain, Spectra Jet, and Springfield Bexley FBO Airport for your time to share your trades with our students. These industry partners gave a first hand look at how to run a fixed-base operator airport, repair private jets, fly (in actual simulators) the newest technology of VTOLs (like flying cars), and proper aircraft maintenance. Students taking this introductory course are well prepared to take advanced aerospace courses toward earning a private pilot's license or becoming an unmanned aircraft pilot (drone technician) all offered on campus.

Good evening Northwestern Families, There is an important matter that has been brought to my attention this evening that I want to share with all of our families. As you may have read or watched on the news, the FBI is currently investigating a series of threats directed toward schools across the country. At this point in time, the FBI has deemed these threats as not-credible, even calling them a hoax. Over the weekend, these so-called threats have been received by schools in the Miami Valley via email. I am communicating with our families this evening to let you know that the Clark County Sheriff’s Office is aware of this matter and will continue to work with the Ohio School Safety Center as an investigation is underway. We will be in session for school tomorrow and will operate on a normal schedule. As always, Deputy Crump will be on campus and will provide school administration with any pertinent updates related to the ongoing investigation. We will continue to update you on this and all matters related to student safety. Please contact me if you have any questions. Sincerely, Dan Bennett Interim Superintendent Northwestern Local Schools

Warrior Shout Out to Mrs. Evans! Northwestern High School Art Teacher, Ellie Evans, recently had the opportunity to present at the Ohio Art Education Association's Conference. Mrs. Evans created two presentations to share with other art teachers across the state highlighting how to set up a successful art show and a multi-grade level project titled 'The Monster Project'. Both the art show and the monster project are favorite happenings among both staff and students in the district. In addition to being a presenter at the conference, Mrs. Evans has held leadership positions with OAEA as the West Region's PR and Advocacy Chair and this was named the Regional Director for the West Region. As special recognition for being an active member for 15 years, OAEA awared Mrs. Evan with the Circa Award! Congratulations and thank you for representing the district so well!
