GO WARRIORS!

Students in Mrs. Grieser's 8th grade social studies classes have been studying the Revolutionary War using the resources in Gallopade. Gallopade is an online curriculum that is full of primary and secondary sources that bring history to life for our students. They are learning about historic battles including Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill, and Yorktown as well as some of the famous individuals of the time like Abigail Adams, George Washington, and Phillis Wheatley. To review for their upcoming assessment, students were engaged in a fun and competitive Kahoot! game to check their understanding of the unit.
Kahoot! is an online, group trivia game that can be customized with any content to create engaging quizzes in just minutes. Not just for school use, Kahoot! can be a fun family game too! For more information see https://kahoot.com/.

The Warrior Way Cafe is back again this year! As a part of Schoolwide PBIS at the Junior Senior High School, students can earn opportunities to get coffee or other hot drinks by following the Warrior Way.

“For some reason or other, a Hershey bar would save my soul right now.”
—The Dharma Bums, by Jack Kerouac
The Aztecs used it as currency. Robert Falcon Scott took it to the Antarctic. The 3,700-year-long history of chocolate is full of twists and turns, making it a rich and rewarding research topic. In this unit, students explore primary documents and conduct independent research to better understand the strange and wonderful range of roles that chocolate has played in cultures around the world throughout its long history.
Pictured are Mrs. Scaggs' sixth grade students doing an introductory activity as they prepare to write a short piece aimed at convincing readers that their favorite kind of chocolate is the best; white, dark or milk chocolate. Throughout these activities, students learn to develop their positions by carefully analyzing source documents, and building their arguments on solid, relevant evidence.

Good morning! Northwestern Local Schools will be on a two hour delay for Tuesday, January 16th.

Mr. Lindsey's Junior High Stem classes have been working on a number of challenging, real world problems and gaining a variety of experiences across STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) disciplines. Pictured on the right is a pair of 7th grade students testing out air skimmers. The objective was to use design thinking to create an air skimmer that would fly the furthest. This one launched 667 1/4 inches!
Pictured to the left is a student working on a Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Design and Modeling unit in which middle school students begin by learn about Cerebral Palsy (CP), the engineering design process, 3D modeling, and prototyping, ultimately applying their learning to create a therapeutic toy for a child with CP.
We are excited to have Junior High Stem and Mr. Lindsey at Northwestern Local Schools! Students seem to be enjoying all of the different challenges this elective has to offer.

A partnership with the Springfield-Clark CTC has allowed teachers to select career readiness kits to use with their students. Pictured is Mrs. Woolfork's 6th grade class trying out their culinary skills. In this kit, students received all of the necessary ingredients to measure, mix and create their very own personalized slime recipe. These kits are provided at no cost to the district to increase career awareness while allowing students to explore what might interest them most after graduation.
Some of the other kits that teachers have requested include engineering, education, welding, construction, criminal justice, dentistry and cosmetology.
We appreciate our continued partnership with the CTC to help make our students college and career ready!

If you pick your student(s) up from school daily or are planning to do so this afternoon, please know that the elementary will be busier than normal with foot and car traffic from our 5th and 6th-grade choir and band concert. If you normally arrive early, I recommend that you arrive later than normal but by 3:30 p.m. A large part of our student population will be signed out by their parents after the performances. This will assist in reducing the amount of cars in the pickup line which will result in getting your child (ren) out more quickly than normal. I want to thank each of you in advance for your patience and understanding during today’s afternoon pickup. GO WARRIORS!!!!

Northwestern Local is proud to partner with many local aerospace industry partners for our students to get first hand exposure to a variety of careers connected to the aviation industry.
Thank you to Joby, Beta, Lone Mountain, Spectra Jet, and Springfield Bexley FBO Airport for your time to share your trades with our students. These industry partners gave a first hand look at how to run a fixed-base operator airport, repair private jets, fly (in actual simulators) the newest technology of VTOLs (like flying cars), and proper aircraft maintenance.
Students taking this introductory course are well prepared to take advanced aerospace courses toward earning a private pilot's license or becoming an unmanned aircraft pilot (drone technician) all offered on campus.
